The following was written by IB Wagonseller (a nephew to Karl Frederick "August" Beck
(living in Montague Co., TX)
1882 - At age 16, Karl Frederick "August" Beck and his brother, Max, age 18, had heard of cheap land
in Oklahoma. They came here and filed on land between Marlow and Rush Springs. They were living
there on their farms until 1886; August heard of the Italian Community in Montague and went there
looking for a bride. He saw Anne Fenoglio at an Old Settler's reunion in Montague in 1887. He was of
the Lutheran religion and she was Catholic. She agreed to marry him over her fathers objections, and
he brought another horse to their barn on the farm two miles east of Montague. Anne slipped out of the
house that night and they headed for the river on horseback. Nearly to the river, she asked him if he
had a marriage license. His reply was that you didn't need one in Indian territory. She needed some
reassurance before she would continue the trip. They were only a few miles from where he and his
brother had built a dugout on their farm when they stopped at this house and were married by an
ordained minister - with the ministers wife as their witness. Carl built a house on the farm. He and
Annie started their family there.

Our Research on the Beck family is a continuing effort. What is known about the Beck family is not
much (compaired to what information that we do not have). The "brick walls" that are so often put up
are still remaining. Hopefully with these pages, we will be able to get more information along the way.
